Houston Stellar Volleyball Club
We are an Elite level volleyball club that works with athletes in the age range of 7-18 years old. We offer developmental teams for beginner/ younger players (ages 7-11 years old) and upper level club teams for players (ages 11-18) looking to take bigger strides in our sport.
For our upper level club teams, we host a tryout format to be selected for one of our teams. This is a competitive tryout, as we are looking for athletes that have experience and or trained skills to match our level of club.
Helpful tips to make one of our club teams by age:
11s Age Group: (incoming 5th graders) Players should have some developmental playing experience, but it's not necessary at the same time. Players must be athletic in movement, have good hand-eye coordination, and be open to being coached.
Players should grasp the understanding of the following: athletic movement to a ball to make a play, needs to be in the process of and or fully capable to overhand serve, they should hit a ball with some power, and be able to start working on jumping to make contact.
12s Age Group: (incoming 6th graders) Players should have some playing experience of some level. They should have played developmental and or a year of club volleyball. Players must be athletic in movement, have good hand-eye coordination, and be open to being coached.
Players should grasp the understanding of the following: proper movement to a ball to make a pass or dig, needs to be able to fully overhand serve, they should be able to jump and hit a ball with some power. They should understand the concept of setting a ball.
13s Age Group: (incoming 7th graders) Players must have playing experience from club to make one of our teams. We do not offer beginner level teams for this age. A player must be athletic, have a foundation of volleyball skills and footwork, and know the flow of the game.
Players should show the following skills: Serve Receive should be in the target zone, have the capability to set a ball properly, Hit with the proper approach and contact, serving must be overhand with higher level contact, players should move in systematic defense, and fully understand how the game operates at a faster level.
14s Age Group: (incoming 8th graders) Players must have playing experience from club to make one of our teams. We do not offer beginner level teams for this age. All players should be playing the game at a level and speed that matches specifically with the club level. Players should have also made/played on their Junior High volleyball teams.
Players should show the following skills: Serve Receive should be in the target zone, have the capability to set a ball properly and understand how an offense works, players must hit with proper approach and jump with a full understanding of how to adjust to a set. Their serving must be overhand with higher level contact and placement. Players should move in systematic defense, and fully understand how the game operates at a faster level. Players must be able to perform blocking skills and transition properly.
15s-18s Age Group: (incoming 9th-12th graders/ all high school ages) At this stage of club volleyball, players should be on a higher level path of playing. We expect all high school age players to play at a level of competitive volleyball that mimics the same standards of making and playing for their high school programs. We do not offer beginner level teams for any of our high school age teams.
We offer the following level of teams. (We do not carry all levels for all ages.):
(1st Travel) Elite
(2nd Travel) Premier
(3rd Semi-Travel) Select
(4th Local) Navy
Our season operates on a standard USAV season. We typically start up in mid-late November and run through the spring/early summer.
We host tryouts every July. Our normal dates are July 5-7th. This covers all age groups for the upper level club teams. 11-18s.
We place our teams on the day of tryouts and have an acceptance format that families and players agree to if they are offered a position on a team. We fully expect players that accept the positions to 100% commit to the team they make, once they sign their agreement.
